2010: Programme Registration Costs

This year's Nordic Harp Meeting will take place in Gjøvik (Norway). It will start on Thursday 4 November, 5 p.m., and will end on Sunday 7 November 2010, after the final allspel (approx. 4 p.m., open end). The address is: Tingbygningen på Hunn, Hunnsvegen 29, 2819 Gjøvik, Oppland, Norway ( see on map).

In the instrument-making workshops of Gjøvik Spelmannslag, a considerable number of Norwegian folk harps has been produced during the past 30 years, and we wonder: Where are they? Collecting dust somewhere? Let's hope that at least some of them will reemerge!

One important point for the meeting is the focus on Nordic music traditions, and how to make these a part of the harp players' reportoire. Since the oldest traditional music in the Nordic countries is played on langeleik and kantele, we will make use of musical styles in these living traditions, and transfer tunes to harps, lyres, psalteries and other instruments.

As in the previous years, the focus is on active participation: You come to play music, sing and dance with us! Of course, there will be lectures, several workshops (basic, intermediate and advanced level), exhibitions by instrument makers, allspel (ensemble playing), singing, jamming, dancing and a public concert.

The Nordic Harp Meeting 2010 is supported by the Nordic Culture Fund and the foundation Rådet for folkemusikk og folkedans, and will be arranged in cooperation with Gjøvik spelmannslag and Tradisjonsmusikkarkivet Mjøsmuseet.
